FPL Team Preview: Crystal Palace
Last Year's Crystal Palace Stats
- League Finish: 11th, 45 points
- Most goals: Eberechi Eze, 10 goals
- Most assists: Michael Olise, 11 assists
- Most FPL Points: Eberechi Eze, 159 FPL points
Who is your favorite Crystal Palace defender for the upcoming FPL campaign?
- Tyrick Mitchell is the likeliest option I'd go for. At £4.5m, he's a bargain option. Although I don't see much upside, he finished second on the team among defenders last year with 93 points (34 starts). He broke through as a 20-year-old during Roy Hodgson's last spell in charge and played 19 times, scoring 58 points. He seems to be a rather solid play if not a spectacular one.
Which Crystal Palace midfielder is catching your eye?
- Eberechi Eze is one of my favorite midfield plays, especially at £6.5m. It was no coincidence his form took a huge upturn after the reappointment of Hodgson last season. During the 2020/21 season, Eze's first EPL season saw him score 125 points in just 29 starts. His 10 goals scored were tied-eighth-most among all midfielders. Despite his red-hot finish to last season, Eze is still on less than 12% of FPL teams going into this campaign.
The Crystal Palace forward who will be bagging us some FPL points is...?
- It feels like it has been ages since Palace has had a viable FPL striker and this year is no exception. Since the 2017/18 season, Christian Benteke is the only Palace striker to have reached double-digit goals, scoring 10 goals in the 2020/21 season. Jean-Philippe Mateta is a similar type of striker to Benteke. At £5.0, he's worth a punt. But I wouldn't be targeting him or his attacking colleagues.
What run of fixtures favors Crystal Palace the most for the 2023/24 FPL season?
- Gameweeks 11-15 sees Palace play three teams that finished 14th or lower last season and two newly promoted sides. It also contains the only stretch of three games against sides with a "Fixture Difficulty Rating" of two all season. At least on paper, this is their easiest run of games.
How many Crystal Palace players will you have in your Gameweek 1 squad?
- Eze is almost a lock on my team as I genuinely believe he's the best midfield option outside of the so-called big teams. Without Wilfried Zaha, he should have a more prominent role. But outside of him, I don't foresee myself rostering anyone else to kick things off and that could be the case all season.
What is one bold FPL prediction for any Crystal Palace player?
- I've banged the Eze drum enough so I'll say that Palace has three defenders who top 100 points this season. No Palace defender managed that last season but Hodgson has tended to be a more defensive-minded manager and kept eight clean sheets under his leadership in the 2020/21 season. They only conceded once in 12 other games and also kept nine clean sheets last season. If they keep things tight, they could provide some FPL value at the back.
