Shane Bieber
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Shane Bieber (elbow) won't require surgery on his right elbow following an MRI exam. The right-hander landed on the 15-day injured list due to elbow and forearm discomfort.
The 28-year-old will be shut down from throwing for a couple of weeks. The good news is Bieber is expected to return this season, so hopefully this isn't the last fantasy managers will see of him.
Kevin Gausman
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman (oblique) won't make a start during the team's upcoming series against the San Diego Padres. The right-hander will be shut down for a little bit in order to get some rest, according to manager John Schneider.
The good news is the Jays haven't placed Gausman on the injured list. It sounds like they will skip him once in the rotation and go from there. Alek Manoah, Jose Berrios, and Chris Bassitt will start versus the Padres.
Clayton Kershaw
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) plans to throw in the bullpen at some point during the team's stop in Baltimore. The southpaw has recently increased his activity level, so it appears he's turning the corner toward a comeback, which is expected in early August.
Kershaw, 10-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 105 strikeouts this season, has been on the shelf with soreness in his left shoulder. Of course, he should remain stashed in all fantasy setups.
Michael Wacha
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael Wacha (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing after landing on the injured list back on July 4 with right shoulder inflammation. He told reporters that he'd like to start playing catch during the team's current road trip, either in Toronto or Detroit.
However, he still has no timetable for a return and the Padres will want to be extra cautious with the 32-year-old who has put together a resurgent season. Wacha owns a 7-2 record, 2.90 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 69:23 K/BB ratio over 80 2/3 innings (14 starts).
Hunter Harvey
Washington Nationals relief pitcher Hunter Harvey (elbow) is likely heading to the injured list, according to manager Dave Martinez. The 28-year-old reliever reported feeling soreness in his forearm after Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The assumption is that Harvey will undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury. Fantasy managers should plan on being without Harvey for a few weeks. The organization will provide more information following his MRI.
