Braves Nab Hurston Waldrep At Pick No. 24
1 year agoThe Atlanta Braves ended the slide for University of Florida starting pitcher Hurston Waldrep, picking him with the 24th pick of the first round of the MLB Draft. Waldrep transferred to Florida this season after a pair of years at Southern Miss. His split-finger pitch is considered by many as the best secondary pitch in the draft. He struck out 312 hitters in 208 collegiate innings. Location has been a challenge at times with Waldrep, but the Braves have worked with similar strong pitch profiles to develop quickly into strong starting pitchers.
