Pete Alonso To Appear In Home Run Derby
1 year agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who entered Sunday's action against the San Francisco Giants in third in the majors in home runs with 25, will take part in his fourth Home Run Derby in his five years in the big leagues in Seattle next week. Alonso also leads the Mets in RBI with 58. The 28-year-old right-handed slugger will be attempting to win his third Home Run Derby crown next week, which would tie him with Ken Griffey Jr. as the only three-time winners of the event. Alonso had a bad month of June at the plate, going 10-for-66 (.152), and he's hitting only .221 (62-for-281) on the season. He remains one of the elite sluggers in the game, though, and he ranks fifth on the team's all-time list in home runs with 171 and is 12th in franchise history with 438 RBI.
