Chris Rodriguez Jr. Will Need To Prove Himself On Special Teams
1 year agoThe Washington Commanders had a third-round grade on rookie running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. (he went in the sixth round), according to two people familiar with their draft plans. However, to impress the coaching staff in training camp and to make the roster, Rodriguez will have to prove himself on special teams. "In Eric Bieniemy's mind, this is a guy that will fit what he wants," head coach Ron Rivera said of Rodriguez after the draft. "We're pretty excited about being able to pick him." The Commanders still have Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson, so although Rodriguez and his power rushing style will be valuable, it's hard to see him getting enough work in the backfield early on to be worth of a fantasy selection in standard-sized leagues.
