Ryan Helsley Cleared To Throw
1 year agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley (forearm) has been cleared to resume throwing. Now that he has been cleared to throw, he'll likely go through two to three weeks to build his arm back up before he's ready to go on a minor-league rehab assignment consisting of a few outings. It's going to be tough for Helsley to make it back to St. Louis' bullpen before the All-Star break. Once the 28-year-old right-hander is back with the Cardinals, he should take over closing duties, although Jordan Hicks has nailed down five straight chances with Helsley sidelined. Before his forearm strain, Helsley had seven saves, a 3.24 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. The Cardinals haven't had many save chances in a disappointing season to this point.
