Jameson Williams 2023 Outlook: Has Big-Time Upside After Six-Game Suspension
1 year agoDetroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will miss the first six games of the regular season for violating the league's gambling policy. The announcement was a bad break for fantasy managers who participated in super early drafts, but now that his ADP is adjusted, he's worth real consideration on fantasy rosters. The 22-year-old receiver caught just one of his nine targets for 41 yards and a touchdown and rushed once for 40 yards during his rookie campaign. He missed the Lions' first 12 games due to a previous ACL tear from college and was eased back onto the playing field. That said, it's tough to analyze anything about his rookie season except he was dynamic on his two touches. With D.J. Chark gone to Carolina, Williams will operate as the field stretcher when he returns in Week 7. Detroit should continue to have one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL next season, and he should have plenty of boom weeks in that role. Amon-Ra St. Brown is the clear target hog, but Williams only has to compete with Marvin Jones Jr., Kalif Raymond, Josh Reynolds, and Sam LaPorta to be the No. 2 downfield passing option. He has precisely the skill set to produce monster spike weeks for best ball leagues, but his upside makes him worth rolling the dice on in traditional leagues, too. It's worth noting he is set to miss all of training camp with a leg injury, so his health will be worth monitoring as the season draws closer. His dynasty value might be affected by his off-field concerns, but there are few wideouts in his range of redraft ADP (WR 45-50) that have a real shot at a WR2 finish in fantasy points per game. Fantasy managers will have to figure out place-holders for the first six weeks, but Williams will be on the field when it really matters in the playoff race.
