Roschon Johnson Could Be Primary Passing-Down Back
1 year agoChicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson spent much of his collegiate career behind Bijan Robinson in the Texas Longhorns' offense, but he proved to be a high-level pass-blocker at the 2023 Senior Bowl and was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. While Johnson has an uphill battle to beat out Khalil Herbert and D'Onta Foreman, his pass-blocking chops could help him get on the field early in his rookie season. Foreman and Herbert don't excel as pass-blockers, while Johnson is a "physical pass-protector who warrants immediate attention on passing downs," according to Bryan Perez of BearsTalk.com. While pass-blocking obviously doesn't score fantasy points for managers, it could open up opportunities to be on the field on third downs -- meaning additional pass-catching chances. Johnson caught 23 passes as a true freshman and 56 passes overall at Texas. Neither of Herbert or Foreman have caught more than 14 passes in a single season.
