Jordan Walker Serving As Designated Hitter Against Nationals
1 year agoSt. Louis Cardinals rookie outfielder Jordan Walker is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth in the lineup on Monday against the Washington Nationals and right-hander Josiah Gray. It will be the first career start for Walker in the DH role with fellow outfielder Lars Nootbaar (back) back from the injured list. Brendan Donovan is starting in left field and hitting leadoff, but he's in line to lose playing time in St. Louis' outfield now that Nootbaar is back in the fold. Despite being optioned to the minors earlier this year after some struggles with big-league pitching, Walker has been strong so far in 2023 in his rookie year, slashing .296/.362/.488 with an .850 OPS, six doubles, six homers, 19 RBI, three steals and 14 runs scored in 35 games. He's riding an 11-game hitting streak in which he's gone 15-for-38 (.395) with three doubles, four homers, eight RBI and a stolen base.
