2 years agoNew Jersey Devils winger Timo Meier will start contract talks with the club this week, general manager Tom Fitzgerald said on Tuesday. The 26-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1. Talking at the NHL Scouting Combine, Fitzgerald noted that New Jersey wants to lock up Meier long-term. The Devils traded for the Swiss winger in February after Meier had 31 goals and 52 points in 57 games with the San Jose Sharks. He ended up logging only nine goals and 14 points in 21 regular-season games with New Jersey and also struggled to make an impact in the playoffs. A full training camp with the team ahead of next season should help Meier to find his flow in Newark.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
