Samaje Perine 2023 Player Outlook: Intriguing Insurance Policy For Williams
2 years agoIf you take the leap on Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams (knee) as an RB2/3 in fantasy drafts, you'll probably want to handcuff him with new addition Samaje Perine. Even if Williams is recovered from ACL and LCL tears by Week 1 of the 2023 regular season, Perine is expected to have a significant role in new head coach Sean Payton's offense. As a complement to Joe Mixon in Cincinnati the last three years, Perine accumulated 213 carries for 941 yards (4.4 yards per carry) and six touchdowns in 48 games (three starts), adding 76 receptions (94 targets) for an additional 549 yards and five TDs. Gone are Latavius Murray, who led Denver in rushing in 2022, Melvin Gordon III, Chase Edmonds, Mike Boone and Marlon Mack, so there will no doubt be opportunities for Perine to produce in Denver. The 27-year-old isn't blazing fast, but he's dependable and has proven himself in pass protection, which is highly valued by Payton. The former fourth-rounder in 2017 isn't a bad late-round RB3/4 target in fantasy drafts, especially in leagues that reward points for receptions.
