Matt Breida 2023 Outlook: Favorite For Backup Job?
2 years agoNew York Giants running back Matt Breida is the likely favorite to win the RB2 job behind Saquon Barkley in 2023. The team drafted Eric Gray in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but Breida was serviceable as Barkley's breather back last year, so he will start with a leg up in the competition. That said, if Barkley has to miss any games, Breida and Gray would likely share touches in the backfield and neither would have safe floors or high ceilings. Ultimately, it's a good idea to get exposure to plenty of handcuff RBs in deep leagues, but Breida isn't a premier backup in fantasy football at this point in his career. The 28-year-old posted a career-low 4.1 yards per carry in 2022.
