Gus Edwards 2023 NFL Player Outlook: More Potential Opportunities In Fast Pace Offense?
2 years agoWhile the extension of quarterback Lamar Jackson is certainly the highlight of the Baltimore offseason, the Ravens bringing back the running back trio of J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill establishes familiarity in the backfield. The 28-year-old backup will be looking for a full 16 games in his fifth season in the NFL after his fourth year got a late Week 7 start to the NFL season. In nine games, Edwards mustered up 87 carries for 433 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Based on his pace, he would've likely set his career-high in rushing attempts and yards during an entire season. With hiring Georgia Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken as their new OC, HC John Harbaugh wants to follow suit with the league by upping the offensive pace in 2023-24. While that should mean more opportunities for Edwards, we should be cautious and pay attention to training camp as there are many mouths to feed - especially with a running QB in Lamar Jackson. He sits at 163rd overall in the PPR rankings, which leaves him in a spot where Dobbins owners should be the only ones looking at drafting him. Edwards comes more into play in dynasty and best ball drafts where injuries could catapult him into significant reps.
