Jaylen Warren 2023 Outlook: High-end Handcuff with Upside in Season Two
2 years agoJaylen Warren went from an undrafted free agent in the 2022 NFL draft to finishing his first season in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers by logging a 31% snap share. The rookie running back finished the 2022 season with 77 carries for 379 yards and a touchdown on the ground. His real value came in his role as a pass catcher with Warren catching 28 of 33 targets for 214 yards for the Steelers. Warren was able to provide relief for Najee Harris coming off a foot injury and maintained a role throughout the season. Warren will function as a breather back in 2023, but he has elite upside if a significant injury were to sideline Najee Harris. The second-year running back had a 24% breakaway run rate (rushing attempts for 15+ yards) and averaged 7.3 yards per carry against stacked boxes on the year. His ceiling is limited with Najee Harris likely back to health, but he can still have a significant role behind a revamped offensive line and a second-year quarterback in Kenny Pickett.
