Jared Goff 2023 Outlook: Quarterback Remains Stable Option In Detroit
2 years agoDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff had an impressive 2022 season and should remain a viable fantasy option in 2023. Facing minimal pressure heading into last year, Goff drastically exceeded expectations, completing 382 passes for 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. These stats allowed him to finish 10th in fantasy points at the quarterback position, making him a fantasy QB1 for the first time since 2018. He posted solid efficiency metrics, including 7.7 adjusted yards per attempt, 0.48 fantasy points per dropback, an 8.0 accuracy rating, and a 44.4 percent completion rate on deep balls. Most notably, though, he produced an EPA of +175.3, which ranked second in the NFL behind only Patrick Mahomes. Maybe we can't guarantee that Goff will repeat this level of success in 2023, but he should still be viewed as a fringe top-12 option at the quarterback position. The Lions' only major subtractions on offense were D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, but Detroit replaced them with extremely capable running backs in David Montgomery and rookie Jahmyr Gibbs. The team also brought back Marvin Jones Jr., drafted its T.J. Hockenson replacement in Sam LaPorta, and plans to welcome back 2022 first-round pick Jameson Williams in Week 7 after he finishes serving a suspension for gambling. The signings of linemen Graham Glasgow and Germain Ifedi should also help to take this offense to the next level. All in all, Goff has an incredibly strong network of playmakers around him, and there's no doubt that he's capable of building on his strong 2022 campaign. Goff's current fantasy ADP of 103 makes him the 17th quarterback off the board, behind players like Geno Smith and Anthony Richardson. Fantasy managers would be wise to capitalize on this discounted price considering Goff has the potential to be a viable QB1 option week in and week out in 2023.
