Mike Evans 2023 Outlook: No Tom Brady, Possible Problem
2 years agoNo wide receiver has been as consistent for fantasy football managers during the past decade as Tampa Bay Buccaneers stalwart Mike Evans. In nine NFL seasons, Evans has had nine 1,000-yard years. He has also scored 81 touchdowns over that span, including four seasons where he had double-digit TDs. Evans hauled in 33 touchdowns over the last three years while Tom Brady was at the helm of Tampa Bay's passing attack. The problem for Evans entering the 2023 campaign is Brady has retired and the offense will either be run by underachieving veteran Baker Mayfield or unproven youngster Kyle Trask. Evans has been able to post 1,000-yard seasons with Josh McCown, Jameis Winston, and Ryan Fitzpatrick as his quarterbacks, so he does not need a Hall of Fame thrower to be a fantasy force. Fantasy managers still have to worry if Evans' value will drop this year since he is turning 30 years old, is part of a rebuilding team, and no longer has Brady throwing to him inside the red zone. Evans should not be written off as an above-average fantasy contributor, but 2023 is not shaping up to be one of the best years of his storied career.
