Zach Ertz 2023 NFL Player Outlook - Could Return To Fantasy Relevance, Week 1 Status In Doubt
1 year agoDrafting a 32-year-old tight end coming off a torn ACL and MCL will never feel good. However, remember Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz (knee) was the TE4 through the first eight weeks of 2022. Over that span, the former Philadelphia Eagle averaged just over five receptions, 44 yards, and 0.45 touchdowns per game. Overall, Ertz finished with 47 catches for 406 yards and four touchdowns over 10 games. He is not a lock to play in Week 1 against the Commanders as he continues to recover from his MCL and ACL surgery. The veteran was activated from the PUP list but didn't suit up for any preseason games. There is a lot of uncertainty around Ertz, but it is encouraging that he was a large part of this offense to start 2022. His only competition at the position is 2022 second-round pick Trey McBride, a promising prospect still developing. Additionally, this team has a new Head Coach and a new system, leaving this entire offense yet to be determined. Even though he is eyeing a Week 1 return, Ertz is not someone you want to rely on in fantasy. However, he may provide stability in the position for those who wait until the end of the draft for their tight end.
