Monty Williams Fired By Phoenix
2 years agoThe Suns announced the firing of head coach Monty Williams on Saturday. In four years in Phoenix, Williams went 194-115 in the regular season and 27-19 in the postseason. He also earned Coach of the Year honors and led the franchise to the NBA Finals in 2021. Yet, after the Suns lost to Denver this postseason, governor Mat Ishbia had seen enough. Unquestionably, the 51-year-old becomes a top name for clubs looking for a new head coach, specifically the Bucks, a team that fell well below expectations during the playoffs. As far as Phoenix is concerned, it's safe to assume anyone outside of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker is not a lock to remain on the roster, especially if it improves the Suns' chances of capturing an NBA Championship. But since the organization is burdened by hefty salaries, adding depth beyond another superstar could be an issue.
