Cade Otton To Face Competition
2 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cade Otton earned the starting role last year with Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard gone, and he finished his rookie year with 391 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 42 catches, which led all rookie tight ends. Otton quickly gained the trust of quarterback Tom Brady. But Brady is now retired, and the Bucs also added rookie Payne Durham in the fifth round of the draft. Durham served as a Y tight end at Purdue and had 56 catches for 560 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022 for the Boilermakers. He has a large catch radius and is adept at catching outside his frame. Otton should open the season as the team's TE1, but Durham could steal valuable targets away. The bottom line is that Otton will be a more volatile TE1 prospect with Brady no longer throwing him passes.
