Strong Chance Giants Call Up Casey Schmitt
2 years agoThere is a strong chance that the San Francisco Giants call up infield prospect Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento for Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals, according to sources. Schmitt has gotten off to a nice start in the minors and recently added second base to his work at third and shortstop. The 24-year-old was hitting a robust .313 (42-for-134) with 10 doubles, a homer, 22 RBI, three stolen bases and 19 runs scored in 32 games for Sacramento. Schmitt, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, could serve in a super-utility infield role in his first taste of the big leagues for the Giants. He has impressive raw power but will need to show that he can handle offspeed pitches at the big-league level. UPDATE: The Giants officially called Schmitt up on Tuesday.
