Commanders All-In On Sam Howell
2 years agoThe Washington Commanders have said all offseason that quarterback Sam Howell is their guy, and it was backed up when they didn't take a single QB in this year's NFL draft. Sources within the team say they plan to give him the first shot at the starting gig in 2023. The Commanders like how Howell developed in 2022, culminating in a win in the regular season finale over the Cowboys. He completed 11 of 19 passes for 169 yards, one touchdown, one rushing TD and a pick. "I'm happy with exactly where he is," general manager Martin Mayhew said. Team sources say the team also likes Howell because he's on a rookie contract, which has allowed them to make other moves. Veteran Jacoby Brissett is also on the roster, but Howell will most definitely be given every chance to keep the starting job this year.
