Akira Schmid Pulled Again Friday
2 years agoNew Jersey Devils goaltender Akira Schmid had another rough night at the office Friday against Carolina, getting pulled from Game 2 of the second-round series after two periods. Schmid didn't allow a single goal and made nine saves in the first period, but the Hurricanes opened the second frame with a quick power-play goal and put four pucks in total past Schmid. He ended up with 21 saves on 25 shots. Vitek Vanecek finished the game and gave up two further goals on 10 shots. Devils head coach Lindy Ruff now has a big decision to make. Schmid took over the crease in spectacular style in the first-round series against the Rangers, but he's now registered a .806 save percentage across the last two games. Vanecek hasn't done well either, but he looked great during the regular season and might deserve another shot as a starter in the playoffs.
