NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 3/6/23
The trade market has officially come and gone and teams are gearing up for a tough stretch of very meaningful games and playoffs in hopes of a date with Lord Stanley. Tonight we have a 6-game slate with no teams playing on a back-to-back. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Ottawa with 4.2, Edmonton with 3.9 and Winnipeg with 3.7 goals. I will do my best in guiding you through this six-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Goalies
Jake Oettinger- DK $7.9K || FD $7.8K
Opponent - Calgary Flames
This slate has a mix of different options and Jake Oettinger has the best chance at a high-ceiling game. The netminder has won 3 of his last 5 appearances with the most notable win coming Saturday in a 7-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Per the norm, the Flames have been a common target in the articles as of late thanks to their high shot output and lack of goals to follow it up, providing a solid floor for Oettinger and a high ceiling if he can keep the Flames out of the net. If you want a safer option in the net, look at Senators goalie Cam Talbot.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Talbot (DK $8.5K || FD $8.8K), Korpisalo (DK $7.9K || FD $8.2K)
Centers
Mark Scheifele-DK $6.3K || FD $7K
Opponent - San Jose Sharks
San Jose is yet again a candidate victim team for a major bounceback from their opposition. Two days ago the Capitals blew up on San Jose in an 8-3 win after struggling for many matches and now the Winnipeg Jets are in a similar position and points are crucial as they fight to keep a hold of their wild-card position in the playoffs. Pierre-Luc Dubois looks to be out again for this contest, keeping the bulk of the pressure on players like Scheifele. In Scheifele’s last five games, he has 2 goals, 3 assists and 13 shots. Surprisingly, San Jose has been decent on the road, outscoring their opponents 16 to 14, however, expected starter James Reimer has conceded the third-highest amount of goals on the slate over his last five games – 19 –. In the last three games, the Jets have averaged 4.5 goals per game and over the season, the Sharks are the second-worst team in Goals Against Per 60 – 3.15 –. Scheifele is poised to extend his point streak here.
Tim Stuetzle- DK $6.9K || FD $8.4K
Opponent - Chicago Blackhawks
No matter how hard we try to fade Stuetzle, he always manages to land in a good matchup. The Senators travel to Chicago today on a crazy run of form, outscoring their opponents 27-10 in their last five games. During the five games stretch, Stuetzle has 5 goals, 2 assists and 19 shots. He is currently playing some of his best hockey in his short career and getting veteran Claude Giroux on his line has made a world of a difference. Over the season, the Blackhawks are the third-worst in Shots Against Per 60 – 33.46 –, the second-worst in Scoring Chances Against Per 60 – 32.38 – and the fourth-worst in both High Danger Chances Against Per 60 – 13.29 – and Goals Against Per 60 – 3.09 –. This is a no-brainer play.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): McDavid (DK $9.8K || FD $10.8K), Thomspon (DK $8.4K || FD $10.2K)
Wings
Nino Niederreiter- DK $4.1K || FD $4.8K
Opponent - San Jose Sharks
As stated in the above highlight of new teammate Mark Scheifele, the Sharks just got walked on by the Capitals in an 8-3 loss and Nino finds himself on the top line for the Jets thanks to a few injuries and a lack of consistency. This is a big spot and chance for Nino to once again prove that he can still produce – 15 goals and 12 assists through 57 games for the Predators this season –. For just over $4K in salary on DraftKings this is a massive value play in a great matchup to help pay up at other spots on the roster. Nino is expected to maintain and exceed value in this matchup and he is also expected to see a large amount of ownership too.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins- DK $6.6K || FD $8K
Opponent - Buffalo Sabres
The second line for the Oilers is back in a big way. A dominant line last season, Nugent-Hopkins, Draisaitl and Yamamoto have once again reunited their strong chemistry. Over Nugent-Hopkins’s last five appearances, he has 2 goals, 4 assists and 11 shots. His shot volume is nowhere where fantasy managers need it to be, however, he is a prime playmaker for a shot-first Leon Draisiatl. This is expected to be a fast-paced meeting with the Sabres and both Buffalo and Edmonton have conceded 20 or more goals in their last five games home and away respectively. For under $7K salary on DraftKings, this is a prime spot and a big piece of a very efficient and successful power-play.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Connor (DK $7.4K || FD $7.9K), Dadanov (DK $2.8K || FD $3.9K)
Defense
Rasmus Sandin- DK $3.3K || FD $4.9K
Opponent - San Jose Sharks
Sandin may not have as easy of a matchup as his debut against the San Jose Sharks, however, he is just above minimum salary still and his value has never been higher. The defender in his debut with the Capitals had 3 assists and 1 blocked shot. Despite playing for an arguably more offensive-oriented Maple Leafs, they do not utilize their defensemen like the Capitals do. The move is already paying massive dividends for both Sandin and the Capitals. Bouncing back and forth between the two power-play units, Sandin should easily reach value here.
Evan Bouchard- DK $3.7K || FD $4.2K
Opponent - Buffalo Sabres
Finally, Bouchard had a blow-up game – 3 assists, 3 shots and 1 blocked shot against Winnipeg –. As stated in the past two articles, Bouchard has been given a massive chance with the departure of ex-teammate Tyson Barrie. Bouchard is now in sole control over the top power-play unit and has been bumped to the second pairing with newcomer Mattias Ekholm. In a high-event and fast-paced meeting with the Sabres, Bouchard is expected to maintain value.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Chabot (DK $6.1K || FD $6.7K), Samuelsson (DK $3.5K || FD $3.8K)
