Whit Merrifield Dealing With Quad Tightness
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield (quadriceps) has been out of Grapefruit League games since Friday due to right quadriceps tightness. His injury is considered minor, but the Blue Jays are just being extra cautious with him. Merrifield went through a full workout on Saturday and has more than enough time left in camp to get ready for Opening Day. The 34-year-old was acquired from the Royals in 2022 and finished the season with a combined .250/.298/.375 slash line, career-low .673 OPS, 11 home runs, 58 RBI, 70 runs and 16 stolen bases in 139 games. The two-time All-Star was extremely disappointing with the Royals before the trade, but he finished better in Toronto and should have a bit more appeal in a much better lineup in Toronto over a full season. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect a full rebound, but Merrifield should be able to rack up some nice counting stats if he's Toronto's regular second baseman.
