Randal Grichuk Undergoes Hernia Surgery
2 years agoColorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk (hernia) had surgery for a bilateral sports hernia a week ago. If all goes well in his rehab, he should be ready for game action in six weeks, but he's unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. The 31-year-old was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays last spring and hit .259/.299/.425 with 19 home runs in his first season with the Rockies in 2022. He played 106 games in right field and 52 in center last year, so he and Yonathan Daza are expected to see most of the playing time in center and right field in 2023. With Grichuk now hurt, it will allow for more opportunities for Sean Bouchard and Nolan Jones, who both made their MLB debuts last year. Switch-hitter Michael Toglia could also be an option in right field.
