David Montgomery May Not Return To Chicago
2 years agoESPN's Field Yates isn't expecting the Chicago Bears to re-sign impending free-agent running back David Montgomery this offseason. The Bears have the most salary cap space of any NFL team this year, and Montgomery is well-respected by the organization. However, Chicago also has Khalil Herbert and Trestan Ebner at the position, so the Bears may decide to allocate their resources elsewhere, particularly at wide receiver, offensive line and cornerback. The 25-year-old Montgomery finished 2022 with 201 carries for 801 yards and only two touchdowns, adding 34 catches for 316 yards and another TD in 16 games. Montgomery has had over 1,000 scrimmage yards in all four of his seasons, but he doesn't score much and mostly relies on volume to produce for fantasy managers. Herbert's fantasy appeal will skyrocket if Montgomery heads elsewhere.
