Oswald Peraza 2023 MLB Player Outlook: Toolsy Shortstop Needs More Seasoning
2 years agoThe potential starting shortstop for the New York Yankees, Oswald Peraza, has the tools fantasy baseball owners covet. He could be a five-category contributor with a little more seasoning. According to MLB.com, he has a 55-hit tool, 50-power tool, and 60-run tool, as well as one of the loudest bats in the system. Combine those with being in a potent lineup, and you can see the excitement. Peraza received a cup of coffee with the big league squad at the end of 2022 and produced a .306 average and .404 on-base percentage across 18 games. Peraza took a 2021 breakout to get noticed, and he's now a top-100 prospect. The 22-year-old stole 33 bases and hit 19 homers during 99 games in AAA last season, so the production is also there. If he wins the starting gig in New York, expect a 15-homer, 15-steal season from a shortstop, though his average may be closer to .260 than .300. ATC is on board with this assessment and projects a .247/.305/.390 slash line with eight homers, 31 RBI, 34 runs, and 12 stolen bases over 79 games. Peraza should provide double-digit steals and is a solid pick at his current ADP of 243.
