Nick Senzel Expected To Be Starting Center Fielder
2 years agoIt's still unknown if Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Senzel (toe) will be ready for the start of spring training after he had surgery to fix a broken toe last November, but manager David Bell said Senzel is still expected to be the team's starting center fielder on Opening Day. "He can play all over the field and be an everyday player, but with where we are as a team, he still factors into center field a lot," Bell said. The former first-rounder (second overall) has developed an injury-prone label in his first four MLB seasons, and his 110 games played in 2022 was a career-high so far. The 27-year-old made a decent amount of contact, but didn't square the ball up enough and finished with a disappointing .231/.296/.306 slash line with a career-low .601 OPS, five homers, 25 RBI, 45 runs score and eight stolen bases. There's still time for Senzel to figure things out, making him worth a late-round flier, but he needs to stay healthy.
