Bryson Stott 2023 Outlook: High Expectations In Sophomore Campaign After Strong Finish
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott didn't post great numbers in his rookie campaign, but the former top prospect showed improvement down the stretch, suggesting he can be a fantasy asset in Year 2. Stott batted only .234 and, while his 10 homers and 12 steals were nice, his .295 on-base percentage and .289 wOBA don't exactly scream, "fantasy superstar." A deeper look at his season shows continued improvement as the year went on, raising expectations for 2023. Stott began last season going 4-for-30 before being sent back to Triple-A. In fact, as of May 31, Stott was batting just .123, despite tearing up Double-A and Triple-A the season prior, batting over .300 at both levels. Things clicked for Stott in June; starting on June 1, he batted .257 and slugged over .400 while blasting all 10 homers on the season. In the minors, Stott was a hitting machine and he flashed that ability throughout the second half. He strikes out under 20 percent of the time and boasts 91st percentile sprint speed, suggesting he can post high batting averages in the Majors. Stott is a dark horse candidate to hit 15 homers and steal 20 bases with a batting average over .280. He's a sneaky-good value being drafted after pick 250 on average.
