Enrique Hernandez Moving To Middle-Infield Role
2 years agoBoston Red Sox infielder/outfielder Enrique Hernandez has started in center field for the team for the last two seasons, but he will be moving to a middle infield spot to begin the 2023 season with Xander Bogaerts now in San Diego and Trevor Story (elbow) injured. Boston signed outfielder Adam Duvall on Wednesday, and he projects to play center field now. The Red Sox could still add another middle infielder, which will determine where Hernandez will play, but he does have experience at both second base and shortstop. The loser in this whole situation could be Christian Arroyo, but he can also play the outfield and serve in a super-utility role. The 31-year-old Hernandez hit 20 homers in 2021, but that number dropped to six in 2022, and he also hit only .222 in 93 games played.
