Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is something of an enigma in the world of fantasy football. He is averaging just 5.5 half-PPR fantasy points per game through two seasons, but his name is always floating around the fantasy bubble.
Toney always seems to be just one ingredient shy of that special sauce it takes to become a fantasy stud. Week 17 gave us a glimpse of his play-making ability as he converted four catches into a team-high 71 yards against the Denver Broncos.
With Kadarius Toney potentially carving out a larger role in the offense, can you rely on him as a viable fantasy option for Week 18?
What Has Kadarius Toney Done in Fantasy Football in 2022?
Kadarius Toney made his debut with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9 after being traded from the New York Giants. The Chiefs gave the fans what they wanted to see as they quickly found creative ways to get Toney involved. In Week 10, he produced 57 yards and a touchdown from four catches and added another 33 rushing yards on two attempts.
Toney sustained a hamstring injury in Week 11, which kept him out for Weeks 12-14. He has since seen his role increase each week after his return. After easing into game shape with a 6% snap share in Week 15, he saw snap shares of 30% and 32% in the following two games.
After struggling to establish a rhythm with the Giants, Toney found a home in a Chiefs offense that offers a more conducive structure to his play style. Toney averaged just 3.2 half-PPR fantasy points per game as a member of the Giants. In three games with at least a 30% snap share in Kansas City, his average climbs to 10.46 FPPG.
Should I Start Kadarius Toney in Fantasy Football Week 18?
The Toney train appears to be back on track, but fantasy managers should proceed with trepidation. Toney already missed another five-game stretch with a hamstring injury earlier this season, and he has developed a reputation for being injury-prone in his short career.
The Chiefs have a stacked arsenal of offensive weapons, and they intend to get everyone involved. He ranked fourth in snap share among his position in Week 17, further restricting his fantasy value until we see more consistency.
Kadarius Toney is a dynamic player with upside potential when the opportunity arises. Given his current role in the offense, however, it’s best to remain cautiously optimistic and watch his progression from a safe distance.
