Jacob deGrom 2023 MLB Player Outlook: The Best Arm In The Game When Healthy
2 years agoTexas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom is undoubtedly the best pitcher in the game when his health is not compromised. The 34-year-old has been obliterated by injuries and has not commenced a 30-start season since his CY Young performance in 2019. deGrom recently signed with Texas on a five-year $185 million contract, with a 2028 club option worth $20 million. The Florida native made 11 starts in 2022 and displayed a 3.08 ERA while whiffing 102 batters with a 126 ERA+. Despite an injury-shortened season, deGrom finished with a 2.13 FIP and a 3.3 BB%. His elevated K% settled at 42.7% (second highest in his career). Barring any health issues, the Rangers are expected to see positive things from deGrom, whether finishing top-five in Cy Young voting or striking out 200-plus batters. Assuming that his 2023 ventures aren't riddled with injuries, it wouldn't be a long shot to grab him in the late third round. Steamers projects deGrom to finish with 29 starts, a 2.69 ERA, and a 5.5 WAR. Those are some impressive numbers to bank on with a 36.14 NFBC ADP.
