Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett was drafted as just the 43rd wideout of the board in preseason fantasy drafts as the 30-year-old veteran had a bleak season outlook with new quarterback Geno Smith. However, he was the WR8 heading into Week 15, scoring 15.7 PPR fantasy points per game.
He has been the picture of health, playing in at least 15 games in each of his first seven seasons. However, he finds himself in the injury news after the Seahawks' Thursday Night Football loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It's never a good time to lose a fantasy stud due to injury, but heading into the second round of the fantasy playoffs would be a tough break for Lockett's fantasy managers.
How long will Lockett be out, and what would his absence mean for other Seattle pass-catchers? We'll dive into it.
Tyler Lockett Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Lockett (finger) is expected to have surgery to fix and stabilize his fractured index finger, according to a source. It's possible that Lockett only misses one game and is back for the final two games of the regular season, but a firm timetable will be available after he has surgery. Lockett officially suffered a spiral crack in his first metacarpal when he went to make a catch low on an incompletion during the final drive of the game on Thursday.
As a top-10 fantasy wideout this year, losing Lockett is a big blow for the Seahawks and fantasy managers that are still in contention for a title in 2022. Since he could be back for the fantasy championship in most leagues in Week 17, hold onto Lockett for now in single-year leagues.
Tyler Lockett Injury Fallout
As mentioned above, Lockett should be able to return for Week 17, but his fantasy managers will likely have to find a replacement for him in Week 16. Marquise Goodwin should slide into the WR2 spot for the game against Kansas City in what could be a high-flying shootout.
Goodwin has caught 27 of his 38 targets for 387 yards and four touchdowns on the season and still has deep-play ability in his ninth NFL season. He'll certainly be a popular streamer and a no-brainer waiver wire add.
However, tight end Noah Fant could be in line for a breakout, too. The Chiefs are just a neutral matchup for tight ends but have stopped the run at a high rate this season. Seattle will likely have to pass early and often to keep up and Fant is just behind DK Metcalf and Lockett in receptions (42) and targets (53). This Seattle offense can support multiple fantasy-relevent pass-catchers, so Fant and Goodwin should be very much on the fantasy radar.
