Triston Casas Likely To Start At First Base Next Year
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox had a show of faith for infielder Triston Casas to start at first base on Opening Day in 2023 after they designated veteran Eric Hosmer for assignment on Friday. Casas made his debut with Boston last year and hit .197/.358/.408 with five home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and a stolen base in only 95 plate appearances over 27 games played. The 22-year-old suffered a knee injury while playing winter ball, but he's fully expected to be ready for spring training and the start of the regular season. MLB Pipeline has Casas ranked as Boston's No. 2 prospect, behind only shortstop Marcelo Mayer. In 72 games at Triple-A Worcester in 2022, Casas slashed .273/.382/.481 with an .863 OPS, 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 45 runs scored in 317 plate appearances.
