San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason is an undrafted rookie out of Georgia Tech, but he's found himself on the fantasy radar as the fantasy football playoffs are set to begin.
Mason had nearly 2,400 rushing yards in his four-year collegiate career and even though he hasn't had a big fantasy performance this season, his situation makes him a desirable pick off the waiver wire.
Christian McCaffrey is the clear starter in Kyle Shanahan's offense but is Mason the clear handcuff running back we should all be rostering for late-season upside? Let's find out.

What Did Jordan Mason Do In Week 14?
In the blowout win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mason rushed 11 times for 56 yards (5.1 YPC) and was the clear No. 2 back to McCaffrey. Meanwhile, Tevin Coleman, who was elevated to the roster for this contest didn't log a touch. Third-round rookie running back Tyrion Davis-Price was a healthy scratch.
Again, Mason didn't provide fantasy managers will a week-winning performance, but just being the backup to the often-injured McCaffrey places him firmly on the fantasy radar.
Should I Pickup Jordan Mason Off the Waiver Wire in Fantasy Football?
In leagues of all shapes and sizes, Mason should be rostered. Even fantasy managers who don't have McCaffery on their roster should be adding Mason while dropping fringe flex plays like WR2s or WR3s on low-volume, bad offenses. If anything happens to McCaffery down the stretch, Mason could instantly have league-winning upside.
We've seen running backs in the Shanahan system come out of nowhere and provide big boom performances. From Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert to JaMycal Hasty and Elijah Mitchell, any starting running back for the 49ers has been firmly on at least the start 'em, sit 'em bubble in fantasy leagues. Just because Mason wasn't drafted doesn't mean Shanahan won't ride him if he's the hot hand.
In even deeper leagues, Coleman and Davis-Price can be stashed, as both could also see plenty of work if McCaffrey were to go down.
