Red Sox Looking For Second Basemen
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox have started reaching out to teams regarding the availability of their second basemen, hoping to figure out a Plan B in the likely event that shortstop Xander Bogaerts leaves Boston in free agency, according to sources. If Bogaerts signs elsewhere, the plan seems to be to move Trevor Story to shortstop, where he played exclusively for the first six years of his career. "It doesn't seem like they're going to spend big on a shortstop," one source said. "They knew this was a possibility when they signed Story last year." Perhaps a move back to the 6 will make Story more comfortable at the plate after he hit .238/.303/.434 with 16 home runs, 66 RBI, 53 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 357 at-bats in his first year in Boston while also dealing with multiple injuries.
