Xander Bogaerts Officially Opts Out
2 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts officially opted out of his $20 million player option with the Red Sox for the 2023 season and has become a free agent, according to the MLB Players Association. Bogaerts will forego the final three years of his deal with Boston in order to hit the open market and cash in this winter. The shortstop free-agent market will have some big names on it this offseason, and Bogaerts will be right up there at the top. The 30-year-old made his fourth All-Star team (and second straight) in 2022 by hitting an impressive .307/.377/.456 with an .833 OPS, 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 631 plate appearances over 150 games. Playing in Boston was nice for his fantasy outlook, but he should remain a high-end target at the position, regardless of where he lands in free agency.
