2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals re-signed right-hander Adam Wainwright to a one-year, $17.5 million deal on Friday. The 41-year-old veteran will have $10 million deferred and will make an extra $500,000 each for 28 and 30 starts, plus other awards/bonuses. The 2023 season could very well be Wainwright's last in the big leagues. He was decent for the Red Birds in 2022, going 11-12 with a 3.71 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.28 WHIP, 143 strikeouts and 54 walks in 191 2/3 innings over his 32 starts. Considering his age and the poor finish to his season, Wainwright probably won't be much more than an innings-eater for fantasy managers in deeper leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
