Phillies Sign Manager Rob Thomson To Two-Year Deal
2 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies signed manager Rob Thomson to a two-year contract for the 2023 and 2024 seasons on Monday, according to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. Thompson is well-deserving after leading the Phillies to a Wild-Card Series win over the St. Louis Cardinals last weekend, the club's first playoff series win since 2010. The 59-year-old skipper took over as the interim manager on June 3 when the Phillies fired Joe Girardi after a 22-29 start to the season. Philadelphia went 65-46 the rest of the way under Thomson and finished third in the National League East as the final NL Wild-Card team. Thomson becomes the first Canadian-born manager to lead a team to the playoffs. He was the team's bench coach since 2018 before being promoted this year.
