Zack Wheeler Starting Game 1 For Phillies
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler has been tabbed as the team's Game 1 starter against the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Wild-Card Series that begins on Friday. He'll be opposed by Cardinals left-hander Jose Quintana. In his final three starts of the regular season, Wheeler allowed just one earned run on nine hits while walking one and striking out 15 in 15 innings pitched. He was also excellent in his two starts against the Red Birds this year, throwing 14 shutout innings on nine hits while walking two and striking out 10. The 32-year-old finished the regular season with a strong 2.82 ERA and 163 K's in 153 innings pitched.
