Jeff McNeil Retreats To The Bench Wednesday
2 years agoNew York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday for the regular season finale against the Washington Nationals. The Mets have nothing to play for in Game 162 on Wednesday after the Atlanta Braves clinched the National League East title on Tuesday, so the Mets will rest the likely NL batting champ before their wild-card series begins on Friday against the San Diego Padres. McNeil will finish the 2022 regular season with a .326/.382/.454 slash line with an .836 OPS, nine home runs, 62 RBI, 73 runs scored and four stolen bases in 147 games in his second career All-Star season. Tyler Naquin is starting in right field and hitting leadoff, while Luis Guillorme is at the keystone and batting sixth against Nationals right-hander Erick Fedde in the regular season finale.
