David Njoku Could Be Coverage-Scheme Dependent
2 years agoCleveland Browns tight end David Njoku had a career-high nine catches on 10 targets for 89 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's 29-17 win over the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers. It was the most catches by a Browns tight end in a single game since Jordan Cameron had nine in 2013. "I think that is the thing with Dave. We have talked about it. There are games where coverage dictates the ball goes elsewhere, and he blocks his rear end off," head coach Kevin Stefanski said. Njoku has played at least 88 percent of the snaps through three games, but his strength as a blocker in the Browns strong run game means that his production will probably come and go, which is why he's still not in the TE1 picture on a weekly basis. But the former first-rounder's performance in Week 3 surely makes him more attractive as a TE2 stash.
