BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~155 Overall
CURRENT ADP: ~176
ANALYSIS: Everything lined up for Higbee to be a top-10 fantasy tight end in 2021. He had Matthew Stafford replacing Jared Goff as his quarterback, and longtime tight end teammate Gerald Everett took his talents to the Seattle Seahawks, so Higbee no longer had to share his playing time and targets with him. Fantasy managers were thinking he could duplicate what he did in 2019 when he racked up four consecutive 100-yard games.
Instead, Higbee turned in his second straight mediocre statistical season. Higbee's 61-560-5 was fine if you had him as the backup tight end on your fantasy roster, but his numbers did not win anyone any fantasy titles. The Super Bowl champion Rams did not add a tight end in the offseason that can seriously threaten Higbee's target total, and the swap of Odell Beckham Jr. for Allen Robinson as the No. 2 WR on the team should not affect Higbee, either.
This probably means Higbee's numbers will either stay along the same lines or get a slight bump upward. There is always a chance that L.A. head coach/offensive mastermind Sean McVay finds a way for Higbee to re-emerge as the playmaking tight end he was in 2019.
But more likely than not he will be a TE2 for fantasy purposes who you can plug in when he faces a below-average defense or when a Rams receiver is hurt and Higbee may get more looks from Stafford. Either way, he's a talented pass-catcher who is playing in an elite offense and he's going to have some big weeks when he finds the end zone.
