Chase Young 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Potential Ready To Be Fulfilled
2 years agoWhile Washington Commanders defensive lineman Chase Young won the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award with 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles, there is an argument to be made that he's disappointed in his first two seasons as a pro. The former Buckeye entered the league with some of the most impressive defensive film in recent memory, yet he's struggled with injuries, and his pass rush production has been inconsistent. Young produced just 40 quarterback pressures as a rookie, which was exactly half what former teammate Nick Bosa did in his first year. In his second season, Young was injured and missed eight games, for which you can't fault him too much. However, had Young stayed healthy, he was on pace for just 2.8 sacks and 45 pressures in 2022. That kind of production won't cut it in fantasy, even though Young is an above-average run defender who forces fumbles. The Ohio State star needs to become more consistent as a pass rusher to validate his current status as a DL1 in our ranks. Young has the talent to be an elite option, but for now, we are ranking him predominantly on projection.
