Adam Trautman 2022 Outlook: The Struggle May Not End
2 years agoNew Orleans Saints tight end Adam Trautman was among those players picked as a breakout prior to the 2021 campaign. After all, New Orleans had a weak receiving group and could have used someone to step up. Trautman was billed to be that guy but fell well short of expectations in 2021, mustering a meager 27 receptions for 263 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games played on the season. His best performance of the year was in November against the Eagles when he compiled five receptions for 58 yards and a score on eight targets. Aside from that, the TE couldn't reach 50 yards in another contest. Entering 2022, there seems to be no significant competition for Trautman in the TE room, but the WR room was definitely bolstered with the additions of veteran Jarvis Landry and rookie Chris Olave, along with the hopeful return of Michael Thomas. If Trautman couldn't take advantage last year with a weakened receiving corps, it's unlikely he will this year given there will be more talented pass-catchers ahead of him on the overall receiving depth chart. It will be hard to trust the TE in 2022 as a reliable fantasy option given he didn't perform well in 2021. Even in a thin fantasy position like TE, Trautman is no more than a backup in deep leagues or a stash to have on your team for depth.
