Corey Knebel Loses Closing Role
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies interim manager Rob Thompson said that he'll start using closer Corey Knebel in lower-leverage spots and will rotate other relievers for closing situations, depending on the situation. Knebel injured his shoulder over the weekend and blew another save on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins when he allowed three unearned runs while walking two. The hard-throwing right-hander has 11 saves on the year, but he's also 2-5 with four blown saves, and he's posted a 4.26 ERA (8.66 FIP) with three earned runs allowed, seven walks and six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings in seven games since May 29. Until he can right the ship, the Phillies will go with a committee approach involving lefty Brad Hand and Seranthony Dominguez.
