Jaylen Waddle 2022 Outlook: An Encore Performance?
2 years agoMiami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle had an excellent rookie season in 2021. His 104 receptions, the fifth-highest total in the league, set a new rookie record. This number, combined with his 1,018 scrimmage yards and seven total touchdowns, gave Waddle an excellent WR13 finish in PPR leagues. If it weren't for the stardom of Cincinnati's young wideout Ja'Marr Chase, Waddle would have been the most prized member of the 2021 receiver class. Nonetheless, some concerns do exist for Waddle's outlook in 2022. One is that superstar receiver Tyreek Hill was dealt to the Dolphins this offseason. With Waddle playing second fiddle behind Hill, it is highly unlikely that he is able to replicate his volume from last year. Moreover, as a rookie Waddle finished outside of the top-70 wideouts in both yards per catch and yards per target. This leads to the conclusion that his usage, which is likely to decrease, had a large impact on his fantasy success in 2021. Waddle's ADP since the start of May has been as the WR13; this is a hefty price to pay for a guy likely to regress statistically even if he improves as a player. Waddle is an excellent asset for managers in dynasty leagues, but he may be too costly to be a good choice in redraft leagues.
