Evan Engram 2022 Player Outlook – Change of Scenery Will Be Big Help
3 years agoEngram is coming off the worst season of his five-year career. How bad was it? In 2019, he put up almost identical numbers to what he put up last year --- in just eight games. His 8.9 yards per catch were a career-worst as well. A change of scenery could not have come at a better time for Engram, who was weighed down in New York by the inconsistent quarterbacking of Daniel Jones, offensive coordinators who did not utilize him properly, and an injury-prone receiver corps that left him alone to fend for himself against opposing secondaries on many occasions. Jacksonville desperately needed a pass-catching tight end as they probably milked veteran Dan Arnold for all he was worth last season. The Jaguars' receiving group is also average-at-best even with the offseason signings of Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. New Jacksonville head honcho Doug Pederson has a history of getting the best out of his tight ends in his offenses so Engram should have plenty of plays designed to get him one-on-one mismatches in open space. Drops and injuries have marred some of his prior campaigns, but if he stays healthy and catches most of the passes thrown his way by Trevor Lawrence, Engram could put up a 60-750-6 line and be a solid TE2 for fantasy teams in 2022.
