Nestor Cortes Continues Brilliant Start
3 years agoNew York Yankees left-handed starting pitcher Nestor Cortes lowered his ERA to a Major League Baseball second-best 1.50 on Thursday, following another impressive outing in a 6-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Cortes threw seven shutout innings while giving up no earned runs on five hits while walking two batters and striking out seven. While the spin rate on all of Cortes' pitches was down in comparison to the first two months of the season, he did manage to generate 12 whiffs on 47 swings against his pitches on Thursday afternoon. Cortes is currently generating a 30.7% chase rate and a 23% whiff rate on his pitches in 2022, as the lefty continues to be one of the most consistent starting pitchers in baseball.
