Pete Alonso Leaves Early After Hit-By-Pitch
3 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso left Thursday's game early after getting hit in the ear flap by a pitch during the club's 5-1 win over the Nationals. Alonso was the unlucky recipient of a 95 MPH Mason Thompson fastball to the helmet in the ninth inning, and to his credit wanted to stay in the game, but he was ultimately overruled by manager Buck Showalter as he departed the field. He finished the night going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored out of the cleanup spot, and should be considered day-to-day until we hear more from the club. The right-handed slugger will likely undergo concussion tests this evening, so check back tomorrow for a further update on his weekend status.
